Build a UAE and Dubai resume that is clear before it is clever.

There is no single mandatory Dubai resume format for every employer. For UAE applications, let the vacancy and application portal lead: use the requested language, make the file easy to parse, and include only the personal details that genuinely help the hiring team assess your availability and fit.

  • Follow the posting language. English and Arabic are the UAE’s main newspaper and classified languages. That does not mean every CV should be bilingual: use the vacancy language and provide another version only when requested.
  • Keep ATS reading simple. Use selectable text, familiar headings, consistent dates, and one clear reading order. A text-based PDF is usually practical, but follow the portal when it requests DOCX or another format.
  • Share only useful details. Name, city, international phone, email, languages, and accurate work-authorisation or notice information can help. Passport, Emirates ID, bank, and other identity numbers do not belong on a standard CV.

A practical UAE resume starts with contact details and a focused professional summary, then moves through skills, reverse-chronological experience, education, and relevant certifications. Keep headings conventional and the reading order obvious so both a recruiter and an applicant-tracking parser can recover the same story.

  • Use one main text flow and selectable text.
  • Match the target job title only when it truthfully fits your background.
  • Keep important skills and evidence near the top instead of in decorative sidebars.

Tailor for Dubai and UAE vacancies

For each role, show employer, location, month and year, position, and a short set of outcome-led bullets. Use truthful terminology from the vacancy, including sector, software, licence, language, and customer-facing requirements, without copying a block of keywords that your experience cannot support.

  • Use consistent dates and familiar section labels.
  • Show measurable scope, quality, speed, revenue, customers, or team size where supportable.
  • Run an ATS comparison against the exact job description before applying.

Choose language, photo, and personal details deliberately

A photo is a convention in some UAE sectors, not a universal proof of suitability. Add one only when the employer or role context makes it useful and you are comfortable sharing it. Keep the default CV focused on contact details, location, languages, and relevant availability; share identity documents later through a verified hiring process.

  • Use English, Arabic, or another language only as requested by the vacancy.
  • State language ability, visa or work-authorisation status, notice period, and relocation plans only when accurate and useful.
  • Never place passport, Emirates ID, bank, or medical information in the standard resume.

Translate the professional meaning of your title and achievements, then compare them with the language used in the vacancy. Keep degree names, certifications, company names, and product names recognizable; add a short explanation when a local equivalent would otherwise be unclear.

Common mistakes to avoid

  1. Submitting one generic Dubai CV to roles with different language, licence, and sector requirements.
  2. Adding a photo or sensitive identifier because a blog called it mandatory.
  3. Using icons, text boxes, or multi-column decoration that causes the job title, employer, dates, or skills to merge during extraction.

Frequently asked questions

Should a UAE resume be in English or Arabic?

Use the language requested in the job advertisement. English is common across many UAE employers, while Arabic may be important or required for particular roles. If the employer asks for Arabic, have a fluent reviewer check the final document.

Do UAE resumes need a photo?

No single photo rule covers every UAE employer. Some sectors and employers still expect one, while others do not. Follow the vacancy or application form and your comfort level; a photo is not evidence of your qualifications.

Should I add visa status to my UAE CV?

Mention work authorization, location, or availability only when it is accurate and helps answer a clear application question. Do not include passport or Emirates ID numbers in a standard resume.
